Wheeled Upright Luggage. This class of luggage is comprised of carry-ons, checkable luggage, garment bags, duffel bags and specialty bags that share certain characteristics. First, almost all have a telescoping handle system which retracts inside the bag for storage and extends for easy maneuverability. Some lock in the down position to prevent damage to the system, others don't. Second, almost all manufacturers offer expandable and non-expandable models. Third, most offer suiter and non-suiter models in the standard designs. A "suiter" is a padded board which allows you to wrap a suit, two at the most, around it to prevent shifting and wrinkling.

Most have telescoping handles, in-line skate style wheels, exterior pockets, interior pocket, and a piggy back strap system for carrying small totes off the front. Biggest differences are in materials, craftsmanship, expandable v. non-expandable models, suiter v. non-suit models and carryon v. checkable models
• Garment Bags on Wheels: most have telescoping handle systems, in-line skate style wheels, exterior pockets, interior curtain pockets and either quick-clip closure to keep the bag folded or zip-around closure. Biggest differences are in materials, craftsmanship, length when open, hanger systems and interior layout.
• Duffel Bags on Wheels: most have telescoping handles, but some offer a simple pull handle design and most have in-line skate style wheels. Biggest differences aside from brand quality are expandable v. non expandable models and separated compartment designs- like a lower compartment for boots and shoes, and a top compartment for clothes.
• Wheeled Business Cases: vary widely in design and features, but all feature in-line skate style wheels and telescoping handle systems.
